Safety Tips for Lift Trucks

Lift truck is used to lift and transport materials and loads. It is one of the powerful industrial tools. In warehousing and manufacturing operations it has become a vital piece of equipment. At the same time these are also very dangerous if not handled properly. Here I am sharing some tips that can be useful for you while working with it.

  • Only those persons who are enough skilled full, properly trained and have license should operate this equipment. For this you should periodically review its rules and have to keep up to date about it.


  • To operate lift trucks you should wear proper dress. Wear high visibility jackets, safety shoes, and hats etc. Loose clothing can interfere in controlling. Don’t use wet hands for operating lift truck.
  • Before starting a work check all equipment properly. Read instruction carefully. If you find any problem then immediately report to your supervisor. Don’t operate lift truck if its need to be repaired.
  • If lift truck needs a repair then never operate it, no matter how much small problem it has. Some time a small defect can create a big loss.
  • Fasten safety belt before starting off lift truck. More over adjust seat position and mirrors correctly.
  • You have to be aware of speed limit of lift truck. Try to avoid sudden start, stop, or turn of lift truck.
  •  If another truck is operating in similar area then keep distance from it. Don’t operate too closely. Always have sufficient distance to stop it in a safe manner.
  • Lift trucks are used to carry loads not people. Never use them to lift the people. Always use equipment for what is it designed for.
  • Ensure about load stability. Check it properly because falling load can cause damage and injury. You can use ropes to stack the load properly.
  • Never over load the trucks. More over make it sure that load is evenly distributed.
  • Lift truck is refueled from designated places. Stop it and make it sure that there is no spark or flam.
  • When you have finished your shift then park it at its specified area. Lower its forks and stop the break. After turning off, remove the key.
